Figuring out

Figuring out what I want to do with my life

It took me a long time to really figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I was always a good writer so I wanted to study journalism in college. I also had a supervisor at a summer job who was a journalist and told me a lot about her college experiences. I was excited to go to college, but never really thought about what kind of job would suit me best. Around the time I graduated, my mother died and I was also dealing with other issues that led me to have a mental health breakdown. I also went back to school to study Social Service Work, but with my need for structure, I was kind of lost when I wasn't in school. I found a number of volunteer jobs online that I did from home, and I volunteered in an office for a few years, but nothing really felt satisfying. It didn't feel like I had accomplished anything. I asked the Lord what was wrong, and He showed me how some influences from my childhood had shaped my expectations around jobs and careers in ways that were not healthy. I had always wanted a big exciting career, even though I never exactly defined what that would be. Also, I don't have the stamina to do a lot because of my Cerebral Palsy as well as the medication I am on for my anxiety.

Earlier this year, I heard God telling me to go back to my writing. I am learning to write fiction and hope to one day write a novel. I am also praying for God to open opportunities for me.
